Curling, Popcorn, and Buffalo Soldier!!!

Hello everybody!

It's Shayla here. Life at the office in Smiths Falls is going great. Our team just had our supervisors' visit this past weekend, and it went really well. Poor Ian got really sick though, and Caitlyn drove him home the first night. Besides that we had a blast!

I'll just skip to the fun part. We went CURLING! I was surprised a few on our team had already tried curling before. It's one of those sports that people don't mind watching on T.V. but for some reason don't think of actually playing. Well, I'll just say that it is a sport to play. It's really not that hard. Sure you slip a few times, bruise a tailbone or something, but the fact that you can slide everywhere is so much fun. The teams were Danica, Tom, Rebecca, and Caitlyn on one, and then James, Alyssa, and me on the other. After all our hard work and training, we played a high scoring game...2-1. The other team won, but it was really close. I think everyone on the team would agree with me that the sweeping was the most fun. Basically you follow the curling rock, and when the guy starts yelling sweep...you use that broom they gave you and you SWEEP! We would get so into it that we would start yelling at the rock to move faster. Yes, it's that intense. At the end we took a group photo. Supe visit was awesome!

Later on this week, we went to St. John's Catholic High School to do our first official Outreach lunch program in the school. We had a popcorn survey. Basically the teens answered five yes or no questions and then they got free popcorn. It was a huge success! We popped a lot of popcorn, and filled over a hundred and something sandwich bags with popcorn. We literally gave them all out to the exact last bag; no more, no less. On the survey we also asked the teens for their name and number if they were interested in Lifeteen, and we received many names and numbers. It was a great opportunity to advertise our upcoming Lifenight, and to just get to know more teens. We struck up many conversations and a lot of our teens that attend Lifeteen came by and were excited to see us and hang out. It felt nice. Outreach is looking good!
I'm going to end the blog with a sneak preview into our office. I'll introduce you to Buffalo Soldier. He is the big brown buffalo in the picture to the right. Tom brought him along when we came here to Perth and Smiths Falls. As some people have heard, we have an awesome office. There is a sitting area, and an area for our computers. It's literally a classroom. So, this picture to the right is a piece of the sitting area. Tom likes the couch. I'll be posting more things from our office in our next blogs.

Praying for all our fellow teams!

God Bless,

Shayla
