iNFUSE 3 explores Wetaskiwin, Leduc, and Edmonton!

Greetings and salutations! It’s Emma Wynker here. We’ve got sunny skies in Wetaskiwin, but temperatures have been dipping below freezing at night. Frost in October? So weird for a BC girl!

iNFUSE 3 has had a really busy week! We’ve had a good taste of what parish youth ministry is all about.

On Friday, we held a retreat for grade 8 students in Leduc. We were at a beautiful parish called St. Michael’s. It was our very first retreat as a team, so it was a little intimidating! OK, a lot intimidating. But by the grace of God, we managed to be very flexible as the schedule flew out the window. In a good way! The students were so friendly, and very willing to invest in the day. By lunch time, all we Netters had new best friends. At the end of the retreat, we moved 70 students into the church for prayer ministry. We weren’t sure how that was going to go over – it was Friday afternoon and they were hyper from games. So when a couple of boys started whispering in the pews together, I was ready to go and split them up. But then they pulled out rosaries, made the sign of the cross, and began to pray together! I definitely learned a lesson in trust and humility. You just never know how the Holy Spirit is going to work.

After waving the retreatants off, we jumped into our van and headed back to Sacred Heart for our Edge Night! It was great to see so many new faces! We left the youth with a challenge – to add something new to their prayer life. I can’t wait to hear about everyone’s experiences at the next Edge Night!

On Saturday we took a group of teens to the Edmonton Youth Rally. It was AMAZING. The keynote speaker was Brad Henning, and he was fantastic. He spoke about relationships (always a hot topic for high schoolers). He had every single person there absolutely captivated by his words and his wisdom. Absolutely inspirational, and so funny.

By the time Sunday rolled around, the NET team was pretty tired. But God never stops giving strength, and by His amazing grace we pulled off our first Lifeteen night! Once again, the Holy Spirit worked wonders during prayer ministry. It is so exciting… give the Lord an inch and He will take a mile.

On Tuesday we had a team day – West Ed Mall! We went bowling, and I embarrassed myself. The balls were so heavy… which totally doesn’t justify my 7 or 8 gutter balls in a row. DJ had an unfair advantage, though. He used to be on a bowling team! We also watched a sea lion show by the pirate ship. Did you know they eat 10% of their body weight every day? Fun fact.

We went to Sacred Heart School today and hung out with the students. They were so fun! One girl brought frozen jello for lunch. I thought that was pretty cool. We’ll be popping by Sacred Heart School a few times every month to give presentations, invite youth to events, and just hang out!

So what do we have coming up? A little thing called MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! There’s going to be running, hiding, camouflage, a forest, and giant spotlights! That’s all I’m allowed to tell you – no joke. We also have our Secret Service Night on Saturday. A message for youth planning on coming out - Don’t forget your camouflage clothes, flashlights, and cameras! And, of course, your best spy skills!

God has blessed us so much already, and we’ve only been here 2 weeks. We’ve got another busy week ahead of us. Keep us in your prayers! Stay tuned for more!
